Tarpan Therapy

Tarpan Therapy, also known as Netra Tarpana or Akshi Tarpana, is an Ayurvedic therapy focused on eye care and rejuvenation. It’s a traditional treatment that involves bathing the eyes in a pool of warm, medicated ghee (clarified butter). The term “Tarpan” means “nourishment” or “satiation” in Sanskrit, reflecting the therapy’s aim to deeply nourish the ocular tissues. 
How it’s done:
  1. A ring of dough is placed around the eyes to create a reservoir.
  2. Warm medicated ghee is poured into this reservoir, covering the eyes.
  3. The patient opens and closes their eyes intermittently for about 15-30 minutes.
  4. Afterward, the ghee is removed, and the eyes are gently cleaned.
Benefits of Netra Tarpana may include improving vision, relieving strain and fatigue, alleviating dry eyes, nourishing eye tissues, and potentially helping with various eye conditions like conjunctivitis and glaucoma. It can also have a calming effect and help balance the Pitta dosha.
Important Notes:
  • Netra Tarpana should only be performed by experienced Ayurvedic practitioners.
  • It is not recommended for home use.
  • Potential side effects from improper practice can include temporary blurriness or irritation.
  • It should be avoided in cases of severe eye infections, inflammation, recent surgery, or during extreme weather.
Medicated Ghee :-

Different types of medicated ghee are used for specific conditions, such as Triphala Ghrita for improving vision and Mahatriphala Ghrita for dry eyes.

Netra Tarpana is considered a significant Ayurvedic treatment for eye care, particularly relevant given modern lifestyles that often cause eye issues.
