Shirodhara is an ancient Ayurvedic therapy that involves a gentle, continuous stream of warm, medicated liquid poured onto the forehead, specifically targeting the area between the eyebrows, often referred to as the “third eye” or “Ajna Chakra”.
Meaning and Purpose :-
“Shiro” means head and “Dhara” means flow or stream.
It is considered “the king of therapies” in Ayurveda due to its calming effect on the mind and body.
The therapy aims to induce a relaxed state of awareness and promote psycho-somatic balance.
Procedure:
Preparation: The patient lies on their back on a specially designed table, with eyes covered for protection.
Liquid preparation: Medicated liquid (oil, milk, buttermilk, or herbal decoction) is warmed to approximately body temperature and placed in a container with a small hole at the bottom.
Application: The container is positioned above the forehead, allowing the liquid to flow in a continuous stream, often in an oscillating manner, covering the entire forehead.
Massage: A gentle head massage may be performed before or during the Shirodhara session.
Duration: Sessions typically last between 30 to 90 minutes.

Medicated herbal oils (Tailadhara)
Buttermilk (Takradhara)
